The Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Distance: 4.82km
Ascent: 52m
Duration: 2 Hours

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a place I have wanted to visit for many years and today was the day I finally stepped foot on this wonderful island. We headed out on a lovely short walk visiting the priory and castle.

Down along the coast there was a view over to a small island with a cross on it. This was the location of a small chapel.

A wide open view of the coast.

The small church on Lindisfarne.

The stunning ruins of the priory.

The spectacular Lindisfarne Castle on a natural limestone outcrop.

Approaching the castle. It is in the care of the National Trust but unfortunately not open today.

Bamburgh Castle miles down the coast. We headed over there later in the afternoon.

Lindisfarne Castle.

Lime Kilns below the castle.

A wide open view of the shingle coastline around the island.
