Higger Tor & Carl Wark

Distance: 5.98km (3.71 Miles)
Ascent: 139m (456ft)
Duration: 2 Hours 12 Minutes

The original plan today was to head up to the crash site on Higher Shelf Stones but Snake Pass is closed due to Landslides and we didn’t have time to do a longer walk so headed to Burbage for a walk around the valley.

The lovely Hope Valley from the roadside where we started the walk.

Zooming in on Castleton and Mam Tor with the snow still present on the southern edge.

Another wider view, this time from near the top of Higger Tor.

Megan enjoying the view to Kinder Scout.

Over Owler Tor from the edge of Higger Tor.

Some impressive rock faces on Higger Tor.

Heading down to Carl Wark, an Iron Age Fort.

Looking back to Higger Tor.

The most obvious of the earthworks on Carl Wark. This stone bank is along the northern end.

Higger Tor from Carl Wark.

The Burbage Valley.

More traces of defenses around Carl Wark.

The little bridge over Burbage Brook.

A view back to Carl Wark and Higger Tor.

A final view down the valley.
