Thetford

Distance: 8.5km
Ascent: 60m
Duration: 2 Hours 40 Minutes

Today I met up with Alice, a friend who lives in Norfolk, for a walk around Thetford. The reason for the visit was to see lots of the historic remains in the village including two Castles, two Priory’s and the local Nature Reserve.

Nuns Bridges at the start of the walk. Such beautiful sunshine today.

The gently flowing river.

Another photo of Nuns Bridges (there are actually 2 in total).

Remains of the Nunnery.

Photographing wildlife at the nature reserve. We were lucky enough to see two Kingfishers.

The view of the Town from the top of the Castle Earthworks.

Looking down the steps to the huge Iron Age Earthworks.

The Castle mound surrounded by the Iron Age Earthworks.

The ruins of St Mary’s Priory, a huge ruin that was amazing to look around.

Although it doesn’t look much, this is the remains of Red Castle, another Norman Ringwork in Thetford.

The ruins of the Priory of the Holy Sepulchre.

Thetford Grammar School incorporating the ruins of Thetford Friary too.
