Tarn Crag and Steel Fell

Distance: 15.6km (9.69 Miles)
Ascent: 937m (3074ft)
Duration: 4 Hours 35 Minutes

A rather dull weather day but enjoyable walk to Steel Fell via Tarn Crag.

The weather was meant to be pretty rubbish today, but it turned out better than predicted. It was cloudy pretty much all day with fairly strong winds at times high up. I chose this walk because last time I walked here it was sunny so its great to see it in different weather and in a different season.

Before heading to the summit I went over to the lower top marked by this carin for a great view down to Easedale Tarn.

My next Wainwright today - Calf Crag. The weather today was very similar to last time I was up here back in 2008 - Windy!

Steel Fell summit cairn. The route from Calf Crag to Steel Fell was soggy to say the least! Wet feet is almost unavoidable here!

A view down Thirlmere to Blencathra from Steel Fell. Lonscale Fell and Great Calva to the left.

And in the other direction, looking to Windermere, Loughrigg Fell and Helm Crag. On a clear day the view from here must be excellent.

Sun beams over Easedale, looks like the weather's going to change for the worse!

Possibly one of the best views for a descent, showing off the Vale of Grasmere, Helm Crag and Grasmere lake.
