Mam Tor & Stanage Edge

Distance: 2.16km (1.34 Miles)
Ascent: 113m (371ft)
Duration: 1 Hour

Today we had a couple of plans and the first was to head underground into one of the show caves. Once back above the surface we headed to the car park just below the summit of Mam Tor to enjoy the view from the summit and then head over to Stanage Edge briefly before heading back to where we were staying.

Beginning out ascent up the western end of Mam Tor. That’s the factory at Castleton down there and Winnats Pass to the right.

Lords Seat to the left and the end of Edale to the right. The highest point to the right is Kinder Scout.

Edale and Kinder Scout.

The Iron Age Fort Earthworks around the summit of Mam Tor.

Edale from the summit.

The Great Ridge.

With the many passing showers a rainbow appeared by the Great Ridge.

One last view before the rain started and we ran back down!

It rained all the way to Stanage Edge but when we got here we were treated to a double rainbow!

The legendary Stanage Edge.

A few climbers about braving the showers and what a superb view this is from here.

Looking back down to the car park and the southern Peak District.

What an evening its turning into!

A final shot of Stanage Edge before arriving back at the car.
