Loughrigg Fell and Caves

Distance: 8.72km (5.42 Miles)
Ascent: 485m (1591ft)
Duration: 3 Hours 55 Minutes

I had intended on doing this walk back in November last year but never got round to it and have wanted to revisit the caves on Loughrigg Fell since 2007 so today was the best day for it with stunning clear blue skies.

Rydal Water from the start of the walk round to Loughrigg Cave.

A view across the water to Sergeant Man and Tarn Crag.

Nab Scar across the lake.

One of the caves on this side of the fell.

This was taken inside the more substantial cave.

A view up to Nab Scar and Heron Pike from the cave entrance.

Helm Crag (The Lion and the Lamb).

Rydal Water with High and Low Pike behind and Red Screes to the right.

The Langdale Pikes behind Silver How.

Two deer just off the path.

A panorama of Rydal Water.

That's Low Pike across Rydal. The wall over the ridge makes it looks badly superimposed or something!

High Pike...

...And Ill Bell over near Kentmere.

The summit of Loughirgg Fell looking west towards Great Langdale.

The Coniston Fells behind Elterwater. The fell at the very front is Wetherlam.

The Langdale Pikes.

Bowfell and behind it to the left is Sca Fell.

Crinkle Crags.

The Vale of Grasmere with the pass of Dunmail Raise leading up to the right where you can just make out Thirlmere.

Windermere to the south.

Great Langdale - the best valley of them all (in my opinion!)

The route down maybe steep but the view is just stunning!

Loughrigg Tarn just below.

Loughrigg Tarn.

Loughrigg Fell.

Loughrigg Tarn - Simply one of the loveliest places you can visit.

The Langdale Pikes across the tarn.

A Buzzard flying overhead.

The view towards Little and Great Langdale from what I know as 'The Bench' - simply because there is a bench here!

A Wheatear.

Wansfell from the descent down to Rydal.

And lastly a Chaffinch in the tree.
