Swirral Edge

Location: Helvellyn
Grid Reference: NY342 153
Grade: Unofficially Grade. Approximately 0.5

Swirral Edge is one of the two great ridges that protrude out from the north western side of Helvellyn. It offers a little scramble down a ridge that links Helvellyn with Catstye Cam, and has great views over Red Tarn to Striding Edge. As with Striding Edge, Swirral Edge can be a very dangerous place in poor weather and should be avoided when it is icy, wet or windy unless you are highly experienced. A link up with Striding Edge being used in the ascent and Swirral Edge in descent forms one of the most famous and enjoyable mountain excursions in the Lake District.
