Striding Edge

Location: Helvellyn
Grid Reference: NY347 149
Grade: Unofficially Graded but regarded as 0.5

Striding Edge is probably one of the most famous places on any mountain in Lakeland. It's ascent is highly rated and regarded as the best way to summit Helvellyn, and its relatively low difficulty means that many people are able traverse this rocky ridge. There are several options when walking along the edge, you can either scramble over the top of the ridge (best and hardest route) or follow the easier path that skirts around the more difficult parts. Another advantage of summiting Helvellyn via Striding Edge is that you can start the walk from several different locations, such as Patterdale or Glenridding and return along a slightly easier ridge called Swirral Edge.
