Lords Rake

Location: Sca Fell
Grid Reference: NY206 068
Grade: 1

Lords Rake is a tough scramble for its grade. There is plenty of loose scree and big drops if you were to fall so extra care is needed and avoid this route if others are already on it as rock falls are frequent. The start of the route is a scree gully (giving a more protected feeling) and leads up to the fallen chock-stone. The route descends a little way and then ascends again to the edge of the crags. An alternative route heads south (left) at the half way point known as Deep Gill and the West Wall Traverse which is tougher than Lords Rake. The initial scree gully is generally regarded as the hardest part of this scramble so once at the top it’s much easier going.
