Bassenthwaite Lake
Elevation: 68m (223ft)
Depth: 70ft
Location: North Western Lakes
Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the larger lakes in The Lake District. It is also the only body of water with the word 'Lake' in its name, all the others being mere's, tarns or waters. It is a shallow lake with a maximum depth of around 70ft. Located along a busy route into and out of the Lake District, Bassenthwaite Lake is probable seen more by road users than walkers, but none of them get the view down to the lake as seen from Skiddaw, Dodd or Barf.
