St Benets Abbey

Distance: 7.83km (4.86 Miles)
Ascent: 20m (66ft)
Duration: 2 Hours 35 Minutes

I've wanted to do this walk around the ruins and the River Bure ever since I found out there was a permissive path that takes you round there (which was about 4 or 5 years ago!) So what better day than today to do it! (Note: the permissive path no longer exists)

Open marshes just along the River Thurne at the start of the walk. In the centre you can just make out a mill which is where the Abbey is.

Thurne Mill - a major landmark as it is one the only mills painted white in the area.

Close up of Thurne Mill.

St Benet's Level Drainage Mill.

A wide shot of St Benets Drainage Mill over the milk parsley.

The oak cross marking the site of the Alter inside the abbey ruins. I haven't taken any shots of the abbey itself because they are currently repairing it.

As well as the abbey gatehouse which is in this photo. They are making the ruins more accessible and providing more information on its history to visitors.
