Slight Side

Distance: 10.2km (6.33 Miles)
Ascent: 661m (2169ft)
Duration: 5 Hours 29 Minutes

Well, the day has come for me to complete my second round of the Wainwrights and I have ended on the same fell as I did back in 2012 when I completed the first round. Slight Side has some good memories for me and this superb walk with its breathtaking views has added so many more to treasure.

Early morning sunshine and blue skies in Eskdale. This view is to Harter Fell with a slight temperature inversion to the left.

Looking into upper Eskdale with Hard Knott to the right just in the cloud.

Another view of Harter Fell… Possibly one of the only fells I have not seen the view from? Both times I remember being in thick cloud.

Cloud around Harter Fell.

Bowfell which is usually seen from Great Langdale. It looks just as amazing from Eskdale!

Having sat around for half an hour for the cloud to clear Slight Side I then continued my ascent.

The view back. I ascended via the little valley on the far left. That’s Great How on the right.

Harter Fell.

The rocky ridge of Hard Knott. Behind is Great Carrs, Swirl How and Grey Friar.

The summit of Slight Side. That’s it! Round 2 Complete!

The summit of Slight Side looking into Upper Eskdale. That’s Esk Pike and Bowfell at the head of the valley.

Looking east from the summit of Slight Side.

Upper Eskdale, one of the most remote areas in the Lake District.

Great Moss and the River Esk.

Ill Crag. Time to head down to the car and work out how many I have done 3 times now…

Turns our I have completed 60 fells three times leaving 154 Fells left!
