Reykjavik

Distance: 8.71km (5.4 Miles)
Ascent: 50m (164ft)
Duration: 2 Hours 43 Minutes

Having just landed in Iceland and dropped off everything at the Hotel we headed out to explore the coastline on the northern edge of the city of Reykjavik. We saw mountains and plenty of wildlife too!

On the flight to Iceland.

Down on the coast looking to distant mountains and some Eider ducks in the sea.

What a beautiful view over the sea. The mountains on the left rise to a height of 550m and on the right up to 851m.

A view to the city and the route we took along the coast.

A Black Throated Diver in winter plumage.

Beautiful views but the weather prevented us from stopping for any length of time to enjoy as the windchill was about -10C.

Although you cannot see it well from here, that’s a Smew down in the water with the city behind.

Haihnukur at 550m above sea level. The mountain top just behind actually rises even higher to 643m.

Heidarhorn at 1053m above sea level.

Kerholakambur at 851m above sea level.

An Eider in the sea.

A sculpture called the Sun Voyager.

A final view before heading back to the hotel.
