Pompeii

We headed out on a long weekend away to Rome and booked a day trip to Pompeii, a place I have always wanted to visit. It was truly stunning and you need more than 1 day to explore the whole city!

As we entered Pompeii this is the view we got, looking up to the Volcano which caused its destruction.

One of the main streets lined with shops.

One of the shops selling food. They even found traces of the foods they were serving in the bowls and the shop counter is original.

Inside one of the posh residents houses.

Exploring the bath houses.

There were several of these casts of the deceased which brings home the level of destruction the Volcano caused.

Looking to Vesuvius, where we will be later today!

Well preserved wall paintings.

The bus took a mountain road up most of the way to a small car park where the remaining 200m or so was done on foot. This photo here looks towards Naples.

The original crater rim before the new cone formed.

Naples.

The crater of the Volcano.

The 1281m summit is just up there but no entry allowed.

Looking the other way to the Bay of Naples and the city of Pompeii. What an epic day!
