Long Mynd

Distance: 16.74km
Ascent: 628m
Duration: 5 Hours 12 Minutes

In preparation for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge in a few weeks time I headed to the Shropshire Hills for a bit of hill walking practice. I started at Carding Mill Valley and headed to the summit of the Long Mynd.

We parked up along the Carding Mill Valley and headed upstream towards the steeper valleys.

Steep sides to Bodbury Hill.

Calf Ridge straight ahead. Here we turned left towards a waterfall.

Only 20 minutes to Light Spout Waterfall - in reality, less than 10 mins.

Following the valley floor.

Lightspout Waterfall.

Reaching the top of the valley.

The 484m summit of Wild Moor.

The trig point on Pole Bank - the top of the Long Mynd.

A view towards Wales.

We descended over Round Hill and towards Grindle, the rounded hill on the right.

Caer Caradoc in the background behind Ashlet.

A view back to Pole Bank (to the right of the trees on the skyline)

The cairn on the 459m summit of Grindle.

The view to Church Stretton and in the distance is The Lawley (Hill).

Steep sided valley looking down to the south east.

Heading towards Callow at 411m.

The summit of Callows.

Looking to Church Stretton and some gloomy weather to the north!

Descending back into the Carding Mill Valley. What an epic days hiking!
