Helvellyn via Striding Edge

Distance: 16.1km (10 Miles)
Ascent: 1116m (3662ft)
Duration: 8 Hours

A superb walk up to Helvellyn via Striding Edge - the first time my mum has summited Helvellyn.

A stunning first sight for today with the mist gently rising from Ullswater.

A sight like this would make the whole walk worth while.

Starting our ascent up Birkhouse Moor.

The view back to Glenridding.

Gaining height quickly.

Almost at Birkhouse Moor.

Looking to Helvellyn from the lower summit of Birkhouse Moor.

And again from the highest point on Birkhouse Moor. The path you can see in the centre is the one we will use for descent.

Helvellyn and Catstye Cam.

Breathtaking views down to Grisedale and over to Fairfield.

Striding Edge.

And an amazing view back to what we just crossed.

Cross Fell.

Blencathra way to the north.

An amazing view to Red Tarn and Ullswater.

Swirral Edge to Catstye Cam.

Kepple Cove.

Heading down to Red Tarn.

Back to the shores of Ullswater.
