Today we headed to the coast to explore the ancient city of Dunwich, which has been lost to the North Sea with only a small village now standing. There are some lovely medieval ruins to see.

Church ruins in as we walk through Dunwich.

Within the Chapel of St James, a Medieval Hospital. Dating to the 12th Century, this was a Leprosy Hospital.

From here we headed over to the Friary ruins.

The remains of Greyfriars Friary which was founded in 1289 but these ruins date to the 14th Century.

Walking south into Dunwich Heath.

Open heath around Dunwich.

There is a network of paths around and a National Trust Cafe on the south side.

A trig point marking 21m above sea level.

Following the beach back to where we started.
