Castle Crag

Distance: 7.51km (4.66 Miles)
Ascent: 280m (919ft)
Duration: 3 Hours

High winds to keep us off the higher fells again today so we chose a shorter walk to the lowest Wainwright; Castle Crag.

A lovely short section of the River Derwent just before the start of the ascent to Castle Crag.

Crossing one of the becks heading into the Derwent.

Castle Crag towering overhead. At this point the wind was so strong we were debating whether to head up to the summit or continue to follow the Allerdale Ramble over to Rosthwaite.

The first view north to Skiddaw and a small section of Derwent Water.

Quite a rare sight - Waterfalls flowing upwards... The wind was strong enough to hold the water up for several seconds at a time.

Borrowdale and Rosthwaite backed by Eagle Crag. This was where we quickly headed up the zigzag path to the summit as the wind wasn't as strong as before.

The summit of Castle Crag just a couple of minutes away.

Castle Crag summit.

The view north to Skiddaw and Derwent Water.

A close up shot of Skiddaw, Skiddaw Little Man and Derwent Water.

A last view down to Borrowdale as we start our descent down to the Derwent and through High Hows Wood.
