Alphamstone

Distance: 5.13km
Ascent: 114m
Duration: 1 Hour 37 Minutes

Today I headed across the border into Essex to try and find evidence of a possible Stone Circle in the county…

Holy Innocents Church in Lamarsh.

Gentle hills allowing for a bit of a view.

St Barnabas Church in Alphamstone.

At the entrance to the church are two erratic’s, and there are reports of about a dozen or so on this hilltop. Erratic’s (Boulders deposited by a Glacier) are rare in Essex and to have this many on a single site is even more unlikely. And with the continued use of the site for worship (Probable Saxon and current Medieval Church on the site), it backs up this story even more.
