Loweswater sits north west of Crummock Water and at slightly higher altitude meaning it has an unusual drainage route. It sits between two fells masses; north being the Fellbarrow Group and south the Gavel Fell/Burnbank Fell Group. The road is along its north side and a public right of way leads along its south shore allowing a complete circuit to be made on foot.
