Buttermere is one of the most beautiful lakes in the area, located below rugged and grand peaks. The most direct route to Buttermere is either through Borrowdale and over Honister Pass or over Newlands Hause. There is a car park at Buttermere or Gatesgarth if you want to do a short walk around the lake. Alternatively there are many route up onto the high fells of Grasmoor and High Stile.
